Tselogs Tapas Cafe

Tselogs Tapas Cafe
Fall 2008

Project: Filipino restaurant Tselogs Tapas Cafe did not have a consistent nor meaningful identity system and I chose to redo it.

Solution: I chose to incorporate Spanish tiles, the iconic sun from the Filipino flag, and also the Sampaguita flower(the national flower of the Philippines) as items to draw inspiration from to create a visual persona for the richly cultured restaurant. Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/digital photography/editing/general production.

A Neural Disconnect

A Neural Disconnect
Fall 2008

Project:
To create an infographics panel discussing and illustrating some connection found in the Civic Center area of San Francisco.

Solution
: I compared City Hall to a neuron, which sends and receives messages to its surroundings(body/city). I took a deeper look at how a healthy neuron should behave compared to that of one on the drug ecstacy/MDMA. This comparison fits with that of the area surrounding City Hall.

The Rhythm of Process

The Rhythm of Process
Spring 2007

Project: To design a commemorative box set including a 120 page typeset book, a dvd, and 30” x 40” poster(not seen here) in memory of an activist/revolutionary/artist etc.

Solution:
Amilcar Cabral lead Guinea Bissau and the Cape Verde Islands free from Portugal’s imperialist hold through guerilla battles, many of the weapons used were stolen and in crates. Much like the weapons used, I believe Amilcar Cabral to be the weapon himself that ended the war and therefore his words are in the form of a sleek gun-like book inside a crate. Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/digital photography/editing/typesetting/binding/box building/binding/general production.

Exploratorium Identity Redesign

Exploratorium Identity Redesign
Fall 2007

Project:
To redesign the logo of San Francisco’s Exploratorium and implement on various items such as a canvas bag and also on postcards designed for an actual event.

Solution:
I see the Exploratorium as a place where energy and thought is stimulated. “Thinking outside of the box” takes place at the Exploratorium and also in my logo redesign. Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/digital photography/iron on transfer sheets/editing/general production.

Arthur Flowers/Another Good Loving Blues

Arthur Flowers-Another Good Loving Blues
Spring 2007

Project: To typographically illustrate an excerpt/line from the short story Another Good Loving Blues. I chose “She knew what he was about. Some of that early morning sunkissed loving”. Only black, white, and one color were to be used. The poster size was 30’’ x 40’’.

Solution: I chose the bright yellow to represent the warmth of an early, rising sun, as well as the warmth of the male character’s intentions towards the woman character. The type is positioned in representation of a sun rising and also the curves of the human body. The white text symbolizes the pureness of the early morning and the black text is representative of the hidden agendas of the male characters “sun kissed loving”.
